It always picks myself up everytime I tune into and watch The Spendaholics program. I think it gives me some hope in to realising just how many people are in the same terrible situation. I am currently in excess of 22k of debt and it always gets me so down in the dumps. I think I create depression in myself through spending and not understanding the value of what things cost. The trouble is I am 35 years old and have never seemed to have learnt. Im ashamed as I am the eldest in my family and should be an example to my younger siblings.

I have never really earned anough money being a chef over the years and my father thinks its because of that I am so in debt. If i was always a high earner, I m pretty sure I would just spend 2 or 3 times as much instead>?

I am , with thanks to the programme starting to accept that 9 times out of 10 there is deep pyscological reasons for being this way rather than just spending to much.

I often consider applying to the show as my situation is so bad. I m often put off because Im 35 and not 25 like the majority of the people on show. I so hope I have laernt my lesson from my own mistakes and from advice from the program.

I am currently single (again maybe a connection there too) . I do have my own property which I love but have so many times this last year nearly lost it due to getting in a mess. If it wasnt for my mother I would be homeless bless her.

I have read numerous cases on this site before I posted this one and its really give me some hope I think. So keep up the good work guys.

Feel free to reply or leave advice because I need it

Hi there,

I am a great admirer of Benjamin and his methods and watch the show regularly. I don't think you should be put off applying because of your age.

The only advice i would offer is to get in touch with a financial advisor, there are some free bodies such as National debt line which you should be able to find details for online.

Once you have a budget sorted then you can explore ways to get yourself back in control by tackling the psychology of your overspending. ( the beauty of the Spendaholics show is they cover both angles at once)

Best of luck
