Hi
Ok, will keep this as brief as possible. Was in an unhappy marriage for 7 years, left Husband in December. I had a number of horses who were my life and direction, but he has kept 4 and is using them as a tool to get back at me. He has all of my clothing, all of the household goods, my passport and birth cert etc.
Over the time of our marriage, he had full control over money. I was the biggest earner, though. He ran up council tax and electric bills without telling me (god knows where the money actually went) and we sold our house to rent a farm. The left over money was supposed to have cleared all of the debts (although i had no idea how much they were, I trusted his judgement). We used 5k to pay of a loan from my family and were left with 6k. He bought a car and I bought a horse.
Since leaving him, he has told me we jointly owe over 4k in unpaid council tax and electricity and is holding the horses untill I pay it all off.
I am now at the point where I can't work, sleep (waking up through the night and can't sleep after 4am), can't stop crying, don't want to leave the house, feel overwhelmed and useless. I have no close friends left, and only my parents who are elderly. I don't want to trouble them. I can't eat some days, and others I can't seem to stop eating. I have been told to see a doctor and try to see if I am eligable for incapacity benefit (never not worked all my life before this). I don't know what to do or where I am some days.
Am I going insane? How do I pull myself together?

Hi J,
I'm probably not the best person to advise you, but my heart does go out to you in your predicament.
You handed over your power and your responsibility to your husband, now you have to take it back...
For the financial aspects of your predicament, you could go to the CAB; you may qualify for legal aid to get a lawyer to sort things out.
For your depression and panic, you could try Bach Flower remedies, meditation, slow walking, yoga etc or if it's unbearable ask your GP for something to get you through. Also ask your GP to refer you for counselling - you will need to make some big changes and will need support.
Read Benjamin's book and DO the exercises.
And don't forget the power of PRAYER - don't focus on the outcome, just ask for help and guidance with your life.
Try and negotiate to visit your horses, with a mediator if necessary.
And finally, if you really feel alone, go to your local MIND group, where you will find kindred spirits in distress...
All the best,
