Hi there. You have come to the right gal for bargain shopping, if you don't mind crowds and rummaging. First, London is full of charity shops, the best being in and just off the King's Road. I recently bough a pair of MARNI trousers for a tenner and a silk Marni cami top in OXFAM for a fiver. NExt are the boot fairs. There is one every SUNDAY morning in Shepherd's Bush just off Wood lane in a Car Park in Aerial Way. FounD some great clothes there by Vivienne Westwood, Boden, TOAST, Camper shoes etc. Every Sunday afternoon from 1.30 pm there is a car boot sale in Battersea at the tech college off Dagnall street. Brilliant!! Every first sunday of the month in Chiswick (Burlington Lane, Local School) is the best boot fair I have every frequented. Expect labels like BRORA, MARNI, PRADA, DRIES VAN NOTEN, BODEN (high street but good and so, so common in this part of London), JIGSAW, KEW, MAHARISHI, AGNES B, CHANEL, Vintage OSSIE CLARKE, MIU MIU, GHOST (Loads and loads of this), the list goes on, and on.
Thirdly, Sample sales in London are so regular. THe DWS, 'designer warehouse sale' has regular sales in Islington (Just round the corner from KING'S CROSS). This is brilliant: expect up to 75% off: Ghost, Allegra Hicks, Viv Westwood, MIU MIU, Prada, Oska, Nicole Farhi, Saltwater, Velvet, Marilyn Moore, Diesel, and so on. I have just been to a sample sale for ORAL KIELY in Brick Lane, London. Bags were going for a mere £15+. Check for the sample sales at the DESIGNER WAREHOUSE SALE website for dates and register your email with the ORLA KIELY site for regular news and sample sale dates. This is just to my taste, of course your can find CD's, DVD's, Books, other clothing etc. Chiswick is also good for charity shops, check out the Chiswick Highroad for Oxfam and Cancer Research where I have snapped up some gorgeous clothes by BRORA and NOA NOA, TOAST, PRADA and so on. I have an online dress agency and buy professionally so have a lot of contacts. You can become a member of the boot fairs and sales catalogue which lists all major bootfairs in the whole country, day for day so you can plan.
Lastly SALES. Always wait for the sales before buying unless you need something, really NEED something I mean. I have just bough a beautiful bedframe from the NEXT directory. I wanted a bed frame before but forced myself to wait for the sale and bought the bed frame for less than half price. IKEA is worth a visit, if you can sort out transport, the furniture is often half the price of High Street competition.
I too have emotional issues and I admit that I do use clothes, shopping, treats, Chanel make-up, evening trips to Selfridges etc to boost my self esteem. My parents divorced when I was young, I never felt loved or noticed by my father whom is now absent. I have more than 10 credit cards and have tried every self help book from 'You can Heal your LIfe' (louise L Hay) to that ALvin bloke on money management. I have tried Birkram Yoga to try and focus my mind elsewhere and to improve my body. I have tried jogging in the park (The dogs scare me!!) I have two young children and a mounting debt, despite a good income and really want to change but can't. I need to think about my kid's and husband's future as well as my own. I really, really identify with the character's from the series, especially Rudo. I actually cried during her show as I felt certain aspects mirrored my own experinces. I am trying to cut down and really hope that if you are addicted to spending and bargain hunting on a low budget that my addresses and contacts will help you. Another great point is that when you are at boot fairs how many seller's do you think accept credit cards, 0 is the answer. It feels more real to hand the notes over than a plastic card. Finally, one way to put your spending into perspective is to consider sponsoring a poor child in Africa and becoming involved in an act of goodwill, think about it and the contrast between your life and theirs. It will make your debt seem silly really. I have sponsored a child in Mauritania, country next to SENEGAL where my Husband is from.
Take care and remember stay true and don't kid yourself, ever!!

If you love going to movies, like I do, then I can recommended getting an unlimited card from UGC cinemas (now Cineworld?). They're GREAT! £10.99 a month ( a bit more in London) to see as many movies as you like, per month.
We each have one in my family, even the kids. Sometimes we go through stages where we see two or three a week. And we haven't rented a DVD since we got them. Amazingly for me, I have hardly bought any DVDs since we got these cards. They've truly been worth their weight in gold!

Hi, I forgot to add yesterday that another great way to save money is to register with BLOCKBUSTER rental online. You pay about £15.00 per month for unlimited DVD rentals and they send them to your door, you then post them back. They run on a continuous cycle, ie: the quicker you post them back the quicker they send out the next ones on your list. Worth a look. Also as the above user has put, the unlimited cinema is a great way to go out and not spend too much.
