Yes, it works. You will have to make an appointment to talk to a doctor...and request the medication. That is the hard part because it is so hard to make that first appointment, especially if you are socially withdrawn as you describe.
I recommend Lexapro with anti-anxiety medication also. Worked great for me. The anti-anxiety medication lets you function and not worry while the antidepressant takes its six weeks to kick in. Your brain needs a rest and so do you. Good luck.

Thank you So much for your reply, i really appreciate it.
I am going to the Doctor tonight, im just a bit worried, as last time they told me that they dotn want to put me on medication and that i should carry on trying CBT! I feel that i really need this medication as it is the only way im going to be free of my anxietys. I find it so hard to explain how i feel, i guess mabie i should write it down before i go?!

I hope they understand.

Thanks Again.

What is CBT? I've suffered from panic attacks/anxiety for 6 years now, and i have been taking Zoloft for it. There has been alot in the news lately in Australia that Zoloft can cause schizophrenia, and that freaked me out b/c i've only just got off it after 5 years! It did help me though, but b/c of what i've heard in the news i wouldn't recommend taking it. Drugs do help to a degree but you need to combine them with therapy. Find a councillor/psychologist that you feel comfortable with. That can make all the difference.

You have done the best thing for yourself. Many people just go straight onto drugs at the first sign of any emotional/mental imbalance without really trying to find out what's wrong with them. I believe you have to explore yourself (like you have) and leave drugs as a last resort (which you have). I definitely do think they help you but you also have to find the "right" drug for you. What's right for person A may be the worst drug possible for person B.

Hope this helps

Yes, I agree. I also see a therapist regularly, as part of my medication plan.
Sorry I left that out before.

Hey

I'd also recommend some St Johns Wort for anyone experiencing mild - moderate Anxiety / Depression symptoms. Best type is one-a-day pills from Boots. Works a treat.

Hope this helps

Congrats on getting off the Zoloft. I agree with you 100% that finding the right counselor or group environment can make a world of difference. The prescription drugs tend to mask an underlying problem that trained counselors can help a person get through. Anxiety can be a very tough thing to get through, I've suffered from it myself and used to shake when I would speak in front of people. Thanks to Narconon Vista Bay I've found myself better able to interact with the people around me and my anxiety has diminished substantially.
