I'm a very shy person who always has problems with self confidence. Lately though since a trip to America I have developed a problem with anxiety and paranoia in public places. I am constantly thinking that people are looking at me and laughing or planning to cause me harm. I've been to my GP but she recommended self help. Does anyone have any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated

Did something terribly embarassing happen to you in America?
We are terribly bad here in America about looking and laughing at anyone who walks by...it's a bad childhood habit which is enouraged by our comedy tv programs, I believe. Many of us think we are comedians, for some reason.
Anyway, see if you can arrange to get some counseling with a psychiatrist who may give you something for anxiety for awhile. If you didn't feel this way before your trip, you may be able to find out what triggered the feelings when you returned home. Maybe your plane trip home frightened you in some way. So sorry you feel this way. It's horrible.
Are you able to go to work without problems? Let us know what you decide to do.
